It's the return of Mixed Precipitation's Picnic Operetta! Back for its fourth year, transforming Mozart's Idomeneo into a food-loving performance in 15 community gardens throughout the Twin Cities (tonight's performance is at the Dodge Nature Center in West St. Paul). This Italian opera dramatizes the legend of King Idomeneo, whose desperate vows following the Trojan War have hefty consequences for the isle of Crete, his homeland. Naturally Mixed Precipitation have updated the work into The Return of King Idomeneo, a family-friendly tale. Returning chef Nick Schneider serves up a variety of dishes to create a scrumptious feast for all who attend. For tickets and all the performance times and locations visit Mixed Precipitation's website.

If you like your food on the go, check out the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy's Bike and Bite event today, a food-centric community biking event that takes participants to a variety of stops to taste local foods. Following the journey participants can return to IATP's office in Whittier for even more food, music, beverages, and the chance to chat with folks who are interested in local food. Stops include a sneak peek at Kim Bartmann's next venture at 1024 E. 38th St. and Peace Coffee (among others). The event happens rain or shine, and kids are welcome with an accompanying adult. Kids 12 and under are free, while adults pay $15 ($30 if you want the T-shirt).
