Sandy Slams New York Startups - Business Insider

Hurricane Sandy tore through Manhattan earlier this week, leaving much of New York City and its surrounding areas without power.

While Wall Street and the rest of the city's businesses were hard-hit, Manhattan's burgeoning startup scene took a blow, too.

Business Insider's headquarters in the Flatiron district have been shut down since Monday. ?Foursquare's headquarters is also without power. Even Etsy, which is based in Brooklyn, has struggled to stay up and running.

But SinglePlatform, a startup which Wiley Cerilli sold to Constant Constant a few months ago for nearly $100 million, may have taken the worst hit.

SinglePlatform's headquarters is in Battery Park in lower Manhattan, a low-lying area which faced Sandy head-on as the storm swept in from the Atlantic. Here's the photo of the hit it took during the storm, taken by Alex Silverman:

Kenny Herman, SinglePlatform's head of business development, says, while it's unclear when the office will reopen, they're all working hard remotely and SP is still up and running. He's working with his wife and brother out of an Upper East Side apartment (picture below). Other SinglePlatformer's have a shop set up in a Williamsburg, Brooklyn apartment.

SinglePlatform's new parent company, Constant Contact, is headquartered in Waltham, Mass., but it also has a nearby office on Hudson Street in Manhattan, where the power remains out.
