By the author: Virginia Stanton, party editor of House Beautiful, this book is full of amazing 1960s photography! Half of the photos are in brilliant color; the others are black and white or sepia. What an education in style and fashion from the 1960s era.

I love this comment from the introduction: ?The most interesting part about Virginia?s cooking and entertaining techniques is that she does most of it without servants.? WHAT?
First question that pops into my head is: Of course she does it without servants. Who has servants?! Then I remind myself ? this book was published in 1963. That was a different era. Perhaps a lot of people had servants. The TV Shows I remember from my childhood all featured a cook or live in nanny. (Think Brady Bunch?s Alice.)
That statement is followed by another that is nearly as amazing: ?You must admit that any woman who will entertain an average of about 1500 people a year in so relaxed a fashion in her own home is a ?pro? from whom we can all learn something.?? I?m thinking there?s a whole world of lessons for me!
The next question that occurs to me: Do I even know 1500 people? I?m sure I probably do, but I can?t imagine entertaining that many folks in my house. I mean ? I?d have to dust for sure!
If you?re a student of the 1960s or perhaps you?re planning on a lot of entertaining, you may want to purchase this book. Click here.
